Okanagan Dentist Kelowna Dentistry

Advanced Technology

Our Kelowna dentists at Okanagan Smiles believe in providing the best for our patients. Many weekends this means that the dentists and staff are taking continuing education, CE, courses. This means the team is providing dentistry with the most up-to-date techniques known. Sometimes a product or technology comes along that makes dentistry faster or with less discomfort for the patient and then we adopt that into our practice.

One example is the Isolite. 99% of our patients say that they find the rubber dental dam uncomfortable and so we looked for another solution. With Isolite we found it is not only is it more comfortable for patients, but it gives us a much drier field to work in and is faster to place and remove resulting in shorter appointments and higher comfort for you!

Another example is up-to-date digital x-rays. Since these came along we have been able to take radiographs much quicker and our patients can see their own images on a HD monitor immediately. This significantly speeds up the new patient exam and procedures that require x-rays mid-session, like root canals. Digital x-rays also have much less radiation then conventional x-rays.

A revolutionary way to find even the smallest beginnings of cavities!

What if the decay is hidden within the enamel so that it isn’t visible on a radiograph? We don’t want to wait until the decay is big enough to hurt or cause a huge cavity so we use the DIAGNOdent. This device uses laser wavelengths to shine light into the tooth and measure the reflection. Healthy enamel surfaces will have low readings and no audible beeping. But decay hidden in the tooth creates higher readings and an audible sound that increases according to the severity of the decay.

This tool has surprised us many times by finding extensive decay in otherwise normal-looking teeth which, when explored is actually much bigger than what was not indicated on the radiographs or visible on the surface of the tooth! By using this tool we are able to target and treat decay in predictable ways before they turn into more complicated problems.

Our Kelowna dentists at Okanagan Smiles are continually adding the latest in technology to keep up with the ever advancing dental field. Come in today to experience it for yourself!
